I can;t believe it has been almost a year since we started Independence Family Eye Care. We have made some big changes this year with our new electronic medical records, a new Visual Field Analyzer and an updated selection of frames and lenses.
Here are some of my favorite things:
Daily disposable contacts. We can now fit daily disposable contacts that have nearsighted, farsighted, astigmatism and bifocal correction! I love the daily disposables for summer activities! They are great for patients with eye allergies. They are especially great for teens and kids. I find my young patients do great with a daily disposable lens. Mostly because they are convenient! You don't have to clean them or store them. Just wear them and throw them away. Most patients will spend about $10 per month on multipurpose solutions. This expense can be eliminated with daily disposable contacts.
Many disposable contacts also have UV protection in them. UV light from the sun cause cataracts and macular degeneration. It's never too early to start protecting your eyes from UV. Some studies show that these eye diseases can be delayed by up to 20 years by starting UV protection early in life!
Blue light technology. We all spend hours a day on our electronic devices. Studies show that the blue light exposure from these devices may be disrupting our sleep patterns. We are now offering blue light coatings and lenses that patients can put on their computer glasses to cut this blue light exposure. I have tried this coating on my newest set of progressive bifocals. I do feel like it offers some eye strain relieve from looking at the computer screen.
